Propose a Project

Project Redwood considers project applications that are sponsored by alumni or members of the Stanford Graduate School of Business.  We rely on alumni of the GSB to bring forward project proposals and provide a first vetting that a project supports our mission.

Sponsors help potential grantees complete the Project Redwood application, and act as liaison between the applicant and our review committee to handle any needed follow-up during the application evaluation process. If a project is funded, the sponsor relationship continues through project completion, with the sponsor helping to identify non-financial resources that may be desired and ensuring that the grantee submits timely mid-year and final status reports.

Sponsors are also encouraged to participate in the Committee of Grantees and Sponsors, a forum for grantees and sponsors to collaborate and engage in topics of common interest.

Occasionally we accept unsolicited letters of interest from organizations who meet our mission. In this case, we may be able to help find an alumni sponsor for the project.

Join a Committee

Several standing committees carry out Project Redwood’s operational tasks.  New members are always welcome.  Join for a cycle; stay as long as you like!

Development Committee:  Carol Head and Kristi Smith-Hernandez, Co-chairs

Personal contacts among our Stanford GSB classmates helps Project Redwood to grow and thrive.  This committee works to ensure that we harness the power of person-to-person connections as we seek to increase our impact through member participation and financial contributions.

Grant Review Committee:  Barnaby Grist and Rich Jerdonek, Co-chairs

Finding projects that fit Project Redwood’s criteria and make effective use of our funds can be an eye-opening and rewarding endeavor.  The Grant Review Committee convenes over a four-month period during each annual grant cycle.  During that time, its members review, vet and assess project proposals, and make recommendations to the Board regarding grant applicants.

Committee of Grantees and Sponsors:  Gail Schulze, Chair

This committee provides a forum for grantees and their sponsors to:

  • collaborate and engage in topics of common interest, and share best practices and lessons learned that may help others
  • ensure understanding of Project Redwood’s grant requirements and reporting obligations, and enhance connections among participants and Project Redwood
  • have a non-time-intensive and virtual opportunity to learn and contribute to Project Redwood’s ecosystem.

Evaluation and Impact Committee:  Laura Fratt and Joe Hamby, Co-chairs

This committee oversees grantee reporting and evaluates the results of each project.  Project Redwood places a high priority on the efficacy and impact of our grant dollars.  The committee evaluates the success of each project relative to the goals identified in their grant applications and the impact of projects on their communities.

Communications Marketing and Technology Committee (CMT):  Stacy Williams, Chair

The CMT members develop and implement marketing strategies and tactics. The communications members create communications for sharing information about Project Redwood, our grantmaking, and the impact of our grantees’ successes. As a “virtual” and data-dependent organization, the technology members keep us functioning efficiently.

Welcome and Engagement Committee: Amy Minella and Rick Agresta, Co-chairs

As Project Redwood grows to include GSB alumni from all classes and degree programs, this committee meets one-on-one with each new member to help them find their best place in the organization according to their interests and to encourage financial participation.

GSB Collaboration Committee: Dave Fletcher and Jorian Wilkins, Co-Chairs

Directing Project Redwood’s coordination with the GSB, this committee helps leverage our impact and support the school’s mission: “Change Lives, Change Organizations, Change the World“.

US Poverty Task Force: Ken Inadomi and Carla Williams, Co-Chairs

This task force is a platform for building awareness of race and the impact of poverty in the U.S. among PRW members and targeted GSB groups.

BOARD Committees include:

People Committee: Bill Westwood and Mike Fitzgerald, Co-Chairs

The People Committee recommends Officers, new Board Members and Committee Co-Chairs annually; develops a pipeline for leadership roles; oversees volunteer engagement and recognition programs.

Finance Committee: Mike Watt and Bill Houston, Co-Chairs

Support the Board in fulfilling its responsibility to assure Project Redwood’s financial soundness. The Committee develops and oversees systems and procedures to assure the accuracy of recording and reporting PRW financial flows in support of PRW’s charitable mission, strategic initiatives and growth.

Work on an Initiative

Ad Hoc committees are formed when Project Redwood seeks to address a particular issue.  These initiatives are typically short term and with specific goals.
