Educate2Envision International (E2E): Grantee in 2021 and 2022-23

E2E has a very expansive vision for education and its ability to impact society. It starts with the basic premise that expanding access to education can raise the future prospects of an entire community and that mission prompted E2E to open schools in remote areas where traditional schools are few and far between. Operating with a philosophy that education can take place beyond a classroom, E2E helps first-generation secondary school students use their education to tackle poverty in their community. Students are taught to work in teams and collaborate on projects that address such issues as illiteracy, clean water, deforestation, elder care, and even health care. In this way, students master skills that prepare them to be future leaders in their communities.

A Youth Leadership Training program enhances the typical secondary school curriculum by equipping students with 21st-century skills and practical, hands-on application. Students learn how to conduct research about critical community issues and then analyze needs using assessment tools and more. Students gain confidence that helps them launch small businesses that help sustain their schools as well. As of 2021, the Youth Leadership Training has been successful in 11 schools across Honduras and has used popular messaging tools like Whatsapp to create a network among these young rural leaders.

A Graduate Resource Center is being added in 2023 to better prepare graduates to qualify and apply for meaningful jobs with higher salaries than are often available to these rural Honduran youth, even with the knowledge and skills they have developed in the E2E program.

GRANT SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

2021:  $30,000 to support the expansion of the successful E2E Youth Leadership Training program into 30 additional rural secondary schools.  Students who participate in these programs are taught how to identify community needs and then design solutions to improve the quality of life for the population.  They can also participate in a network that brings together these youth leaders to build working relationships.

2022-23: $30,000 will create and equip a hub where 100 graduates will build technical and life skills, develop career plans, and make connections through local professional networks. The staff and professional volunteers will provide computer training, and coaching and training in financial literacy, conflict resolution, and communication. In addition, a grant of $2,883 in unrestricted funding has been awarded to support this mission.

IMPACT

Train 2,000 students and implement projects that will benefit 30 communities. Create post-graduation training and support services to help graduates gain higher level employment than is usually open to rural youth.
