Who We Are

This is not charity. This is business: Business with a social objective, which is to help people get out of poverty. – Muhammad Yunus |
In September 1978, 306 men and women began a rigorous course of study at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. In two short years, we earned our MBAs and forged life-long personal and professional associations.
At our 25th reunion, we saw a chance to make a difference in the world. We formed Project Redwood to place our collective experience and financial resources in service of the desperately poor. Guided by a set of by-laws, the governance structure of Project Redwood includes a Board of Directors and several committees. As part of its mission and services, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Inc. (RPA) facilitates the charitable purposes of Project Redwood by serving as the fiscal sponsor for the initiative. The GSB Class of '80, including Project Redwood partners, came together on the Stanford campus in October for our 30th reunion. The weekend began with the annual meeting of Project Redwood, followed by reunion lectures and presentations at the GSB, and augmented by Class of '80 social events including a Thursday night party at Scott McNealy's and a Friday night dinner and slide show. On Saturday, there was a "pay to play" basketball game that raised $250,000 for Project Redwood and the Business School, followed by the Stanford football game and Saturday night wrap-up party featuring entertainment by Jed Daly and his band, Rossmore.
