Global Action Foundation (GAF) serves Sierra Leone’s poorest and sickest people by providing direct medical services from a primary care clinic and through community-based prevention-and-treatment programs for amputees, people living with HIV/AIDS, and children under 5. After realizing that the extreme poverty level of Sierra Leone was the root cause of most health problems, GAF started a palm-kernel farm, linking their healthcare focus to social entrepreneurship. Creating business opportunities in micro-agriculture for the poorest has become part of their methodology for serving the population and sustaining their healthcare operations.

Project Redwood's grant is being used to develop a palm-oil processing facility, which will increase farmers' productivity and profits via improved yields, more consistent product quality, and better access to the palm-oil marketplace; this will ultimately improve the farmers' ability to provide healthier lifestyles for themselves and their families. In addition, the facility will retain a small portion of each farmer’s production, sell it on the open market, and use the funds to support GAF's medical services.

GAF offers Project Redwood the opportunity to provide technical and business consulting and mentoring for this project.
